Remember the Marathon Bar?
This weekend, Steve Almond of the Wall Street Journal wrote a story, "Remembrance of Candy Bars Past". No kidding, Almond is his name.
First thing I thought was, Whatever happened to the Marathon Bar? Remember? Flat braided chocolate-covered caramel, a foot long with a ruler on the back of the wrapper - the excuse to buy it.

Maybe this'll help:

According to Wikipedia, it was first sold August 1973 and discontinued in October 1981.
If you're more sentimental than me about this, you can buy this one on eBay. You've got 5 days left. So far it's only $10.50 with two bids.

eBay Description: This auction is for a vintage Marathon candy bar wrapper. It has an expiration date of 1976 on the back. The wrapper was never opened by a human but as you can see from the picture it has multiple insect holes. The candy is gone. It's not in great condition but it is a very rare piece. I've never seen one pop up on eBay before and it might be the last time so don't miss out. This has been part of my collection for quite some time. It kills me to sell some of my items, but times being what they are I have no choice. Thanks very much for looking. Bid often and good luck!

I LOVED the Marathon bar! WHY do they always take away the good ones and leave crap like the BING still in stores?! ICK

I agree, I was a really big fan of the Marathon bar back then! "Lasts a good long time" Ha! Guess the one in that old wrapper didn't make it that far!
Cheers!

Aug 2013 will mark 40 years for the Marathon bar...call Mars Inc. And tell them to bring it back....the more calls they get...the more they will think about brining it back by demand!
